Dogs are unlike any other animals. Cats don't generally hand you their slobbery ball and want you to throw it just so they can bring it back to you. Lizards don't generally curl up in a ball when there's thunder outside. Fish don't go bananas when the mailman comes. Dogs are special in that way. And each dog has their own idiosyncrasies. I knew a dog who wouldn't eat their food unless their human was eating as well. I knew another who loved it whenever their owner was watching Jeopardy and would sit at attention on the couch while it played. I knew another dog who would refuse to go on a walk unless they had a specific collar on.

Just like humans, dogs are quirky, funny, and have their own specific hang ups. That might be part of why we love them, they remind us of ourselves in all our messy, lovable glory.
